First time in college degree seeking students are encouraged to provide official scores from an approved placement test prior to registering for classes. Florida approved tests: American College Testing (ACT), Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), or Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT). Test scores used for initial enrollment cannot be more than two years old. Test scores will not be required for non-degree seeking, transient, and transfer students who have completed appropriate English and math courses. Students who requested test scores to be sent to Chipola should verify that scores are on file at the college by calling (850) 718-2284.

If you have not taken the ACT or SAT, you should take the PERT prior to registration. All of the PERT assessments are untimed, and each of the three subtests includes 25 questions. You should expect to spend approximately 45-60 minutes on each subtest. You will not be allowed to bring a calculator with you; however, for certain questions on the math subtest, a pop-up calculator will be available for your use. Your scores on each assessment will be available immediately after you submit and you will receive a copy of the results.

A student who entered 9th grade in a Florida public school in the 2003-04 school year, or any year thereafter, and earned a standard high school diploma or a student who is serving as an active duty member of the U.S. Armed Services is not required to take the PERT and is not required to enroll in developmental instruction.

A student who achieved a score of 262 or higher on Grade 10 FCAT 2.0 Reading and enrolled in Chipola College within two years of the test date is exempted from taking the reading and writing subtests of the PERT.

A free practice test is available when you create an account at http://www/perttest.com. Additional test prep materials are also available for purchase from this website.

PERT Schedule

The PERT is offered Monday-Thursday throughout the year. Students should schedule an appointment on RegisterBlast. Seating is limited and test appointments must be made at least 24 hours prior to the desired testing date. Testing under "special conditions" will be handled individually through the Office of Student Disabilities and the Vice President of Student Affairs.

Costs

The fee for the PERT is $8.50 for one subtest, $13.50 for two subtests, and $18.50 for three subtests. Payment will be required when the testing appointment is scheduled on RegisterBlast.

High school students needing to take the PERT at Chipola College are required to schedule an appointment by calling the Testing Center, (850-718-2284). High school students must bring a letter from their counselor in order to have the testing fee waived. The fee is waived only one time and only for Dual Enrollment testing.

Retest Policy

An examinee may retest on the PERT after 30 days. For every retest the examinee must schedule an appointment.

Students enrolling in Workforce Development programs are required by State Board Rule to take the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) within the first six weeks of enrollment or exempt TABE. Arrangements for the test are made through Workforce Development instructors or the Testing Center.
